Located on the hillside overlooking Seneca Lake in Lodi NY is a restaurant with a personal name. Suzanne, Fine Regional Cuisine is a chef owned and operated restraurant that should not be missed if you are looking for fine dining.  Fine dining in my mind means outstanding food, a well thought out selection of wine and beer, a tranquil setting (I don't eat well when I am stressed) and pleasant formal service.  Suzanne FRC offers all of that.  The food is well prepared, the wine and beer list is extensive and truly offering the best of this region, and several other regions.  The Farmhouse style with Locallly made Cherry furniture is comfortable and elegant.  And of course her servers are both easy to talk to and well trained for this area.  We send many of our gests to Suzanne FRC because of the great food and service, it is just an added bonus that our B&B is only few minutes away.

The Food

Suzanne Stack's skills as a chef are very impressive.  Perhaps more impressive however is her desire to use what is fresh and locally grown.  It has quite a positive impact on her meals.  The menu seems to rotate continuously but I have enjoyed Roast Duck, Trout, Swordfish, Chicken, Vegetable Ravioli, and other entrees on my previous visits.  On several occasions I have had the Shrimp Cocktail appetizer with a Gin cocktail sauce that is absolutely incredible.  (I just salivated thinking about it and that memory is a few years old.)

The Setting

If the weather is nice,  dining on the porch is a nice option.  The porch overlooks Seneca Lake from an angle that is perfectly suited for watching our phenomenal sunsets.  Inside, the dining rooms are small and comfortable.  Attire ranges mostly from semi-casual dress to shirt and tie.  No one is likely to yell at you if you show up in shorts and a t-shirt, but really, why would you want to do that?  Suzanne is a restaurant you go to splurge for something special, to celebrate... don't splurge in shorts, it is just wrong on so many levels.

Things to Consider

To make sure that you enjoy your night out, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  • The restaurant is small and very popular, so make your reservations early.
  • The presentation is slow and deliberate.  Plan on it taking at least 2 hours (This does not mean the service is slow.)  Make the best of it, woo your partner.
  • If you are a vegetarian, let them know when you make the reservation.
  • While I believe this to be the finest restarant within a 50 mile radius, it is by no means the most affordable.  Entrees range from $20 - $30.  As a couple, we rarely get out of there for under $120 by the time we order a bottle of wine, appetizers, entrees, and desert.  (You could eat there on smaller budget, but like I said, it is a place to splurge.)
  • Suzanne Fine Regional Cuisine has seasonal hours, only serves dinner, and only certain days a week.  Be sure to check their website for their current schedule, and call first.
